Southern Hills of Greclud

Greclüd is a kingdom known for it's impregnable shores due to mountain ranges that were raised high from out of the sea by ancient magi to protect their kingdom from foreign navies. However, to the far south are hot and barren hills with a very long shoreline. Most possible invaders are deterred from invading northern Greclüd, in which nearly all the settlements and population dwell, by way of the vulnerable south because of the long march in hot deserts that would be required to get there. Some armies have tried in the past, all of which had to retreat as most of their forces had been either killed, or nearly so, due to the hazards of the desert. Ironically, the northern half of Greclüd is very cold, largely due to the high elevations.


The fiction behind this picture aside, this render was strongly influenced by my trip that went from eastern Washington to the coast of Oregon. Much of the landscape has hills, deserts, prairies, lakes, and rivers. There are also mountains, rainforests, beaches, estuaries, sleeping volcanoes, rain shadows, and so on, though those things aren't depicted in this picture. The trip was only a 5 1/2 hour drive one way, but it was filled with many awe-inspiring sites, even if I had seen them all before.
